Holidays are a time for celebration, but they can also be a time for overindulgence. Here are some tips to help you stay healthy during this holiday season.

1. Drink plenty of fluids, especially water.

This will help keep you hydrated while curbing your appetite. Water is essential for good health and healthy weight loss. It is the most important nutrient in our diet, and one of the best ways to stay healthy is to drink plenty of water every day. Water plays a vital role in transporting nutrients and oxygen to our cells, regulating body temperature, and eliminating waste products and toxins from the body. It also helps keep us hydrated and looking young and healthy.

2. Get enough rest.

This will help your body recover from all the activity and stress of the holidays. Getting enough rest is one way to help your body recover and stay healthy during the holiday season. Rest allows your body to repair damage done to cells, helps improve your immune system, and can boost your mood too! So make sure to get enough sleep this holiday season.

3. Eat healthy foods.

The holidays are a time when many people indulge in unhealthy foods but healthy substitutions can boost your energy, revive your skin and even elevate your mood.

It’s important to avoid fatty and sugary foods, which can make you feel sluggish and drained. Instead, fuel up with plenty of fruits and vegetables, which are packed with nutrients and antioxidants that will keep you healthy and energized.

4. Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks.

Stick to water or unsweetened tea instead. It is no secret that alcohol and sugary drinks can cause increased weight gain. Too much of either can lead to obesity, heart disease, and other health problems. But what many people don’t know is that these substances can also have a negative impact on the brain, creativity and mood. Opt for moderation by limiting overly sugary alcohol drinks. Limit to 1 – 2 drinks per week or opt for a lower sugar beverage such as vodka sodas or red wine.

5. Self Care.

Staying active with consistent exercise is self care in true form. This will help keep your metabolism going strong and ward off the holiday bulge!

The holidays are a time for family, friends, and fun. But for many people, they can also be a time for overeating and not making time for exercise. Schedule your workouts by writing them down each week. It can be as simple as a 20 minute walk 3 days per week with a 30-minute strength training Fitzone30 session!

6. Me time.

During the busy holiday season, it’s easy to let all your responsibilities take over your life completely. Make sure to set aside some time each day just for yourself so you can relax and recharge.

7. Mindfulness.

Manage stress with mindfulness. Stress is a common problem during the holidays so knowing how to manage them with a little self awareness is key to overcoming stress.

Some healthy ways to manage stress are to exercise, get enough sleep, and eat a balanced diet. It is also important to take breaks throughout the day, relax, practice deep breathing, pray, journal or do something that will break you away from the chaos and give yourself time to manage the stress of the holidays.
